A considered plan for your connected home or facility

We help households, small businesses, and industrial sites in Japan think through connected device setups at their own pace — without pressure to go bigger than the situation calls for.

What we do

Planning that stays close to what you actually need

Connected devices are useful when they address something real — a repetitive task, a gap in visibility, a coordination problem. They're less useful when chosen speculatively or installed ahead of any clear purpose.

Smart Node Base works with clients before any equipment is purchased. We map out what's genuinely useful, put it in writing, and leave the decisions with you.

Device-agnostic planning

We're not tied to any particular brand or platform. Recommendations reflect your situation, not our inventory.

Written deliverables

Every engagement ends with a clear document. You keep the plan whether or not you proceed further with us.

Phased, not overwhelming

Plans are ordered by priority, so you can adopt incrementally rather than trying to change everything at once.

How we approach it

What to expect when you work with us

A conversation first, not a quote

We start by listening. Before any recommendation is made, we understand what the space looks like, what's already working, and what's actually creating friction.

Plain-language documentation

Technical specs matter, but so does being able to read them. Our written plans use plain language and explain the reasoning behind each recommendation.

No scope inflation

We plan only what the situation calls for. If a household needs two devices, we plan two devices. There's no incentive for us to recommend more than is useful.

Consideration for networks and privacy

Every plan covers network segmentation and data handling basics. Connected devices introduce new considerations, and we make sure clients understand them before committing.

Structured across sessions

Multi-session engagements are designed so that each session builds on the last. Clients can pause between them if their situation changes.

Respect for existing infrastructure

We work around what's already installed or owned. Replacing functional infrastructure without cause isn't part of how we plan.

The process

How a typical engagement unfolds

01

Initial contact

You describe your situation in as much or as little detail as feels comfortable. We respond within one business day.

02

Discovery session

We walk through the space together — physically or via a detailed questionnaire — to understand the current state and what you're hoping to address.

03

Written plan

We compile a written plan covering equipment, placement, phasing, and network considerations. This is yours to keep regardless of what comes next.

04

Review and questions

We go through the plan together, answer any questions, and note anything that needs adjustment. Nothing is finalized without your understanding and agreement.

Background

Where our approach comes from

Smart Node Base grew out of work done across residential and small industrial settings in Japan over the past several years. What we kept encountering was a gap between the complexity of connected device ecosystems and the actual scale of what most clients needed.

Most households don't need a full smart home buildout. Most small businesses don't need an enterprise IoT platform. What they need is a clear, honest picture of what a modest, well-considered setup would look like — and that's what we set out to provide.

Our engagements are limited in scope by design. We produce written plans, not installations (unless the service explicitly covers commissioning). This keeps us on the planning side of the work, where independent advice is most useful.
